Does skin colour matter for display mannequins?

Mannequins are produced in many different colors. The wide choice ranges from lifelike colors (such as light-skinned to dark-skinned) to stylized colors such as golden, silver, white or black. A recent news item published by AFP shows, that it seems to be quite difficult to sell dark-skinned mannequins in european markets like germany, austria and france, as manufacturers of those types report. Currently, the majority of displays/retail mannequins sold in these markets are white skinned with caucasian faces. This is different to what said manufacturers experience in culturally more diverse markets such as the UK or the USA. But with societies in countries like germany becoming increasingly diverse from an ethnical point of view, store owners might want to consider to reflect that fact in their choice of retail mannequins by displaying a certain amount of dark-skinned mannequins. An possible alternative to this approach could also be to change to abstract, futuristic or faceless mannequins in trend colors like gold, silver, black or white.
